WASHINGTON, D.C. — Race Forward is pleased to announce Ritha Pierre has joined the organization as its General Counsel. In this role, Pierre will provide strategic legal advice and guidance to the organization.
“We are pleased to have Ritha, an accomplished attorney with significant experience working in both public and nonprofit settings, join our organization,” said Race Forward President Glenn Harris. “Her strategic legal expertise, fluency in labor relations and employment matters, and cross-departmental decision-making will be extremely beneficial to our organization as we continue to navigate these challenging and uncertain times.”
Pierre’s career reflects a deep commitment to racial equity, worker justice, and community-rooted advocacy. Prior to joining Race Forward, she spent four and a half years at RiseBoro Community Partnership, one of New York’s largest human services organizations. Advancing from Associate General Counsel to General Counsel. Previous roles have included: Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, and Associate General Counsel at SEIU Local 32BJ.
“I am deeply honored to join an organization that not only champions racial equity in the world but models it within its own walls. As a Black woman who has both experienced and witnessed the impact of intentional efforts to undermine equity and inclusion, including the recent loss of hundreds of thousands of Black women from the workforce, finding an organization truly aligned with my values is invaluable. I bring a blend of legal expertise, grassroots advocacy, and creative problem-solving that is especially vital in this moment. My goal is to strengthen Race Forward’s internal and external systems so the organization can continue advancing equity with integrity, courage, and care,” said Pierre.
Pierre received her Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics cum laude from St. John’s University, her Master of Science in Bioethics from Columbia University; and her Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law, where she received numerous awards. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court.
