WASHINGTON, DC — This International Day of Democracy (IDD), the national racial equity organization Race Forward is calling for action to protect democracy.

“In the midst of increasing threats to democracy, including lack of due process, deportation of American citizens and immigrants, and militarization of American cities, we must have the courage to stand in defense of our democratic values,” said Glenn Harris, president of Race Forward. “The American experiment of Democracy will fail if we do not protect and fortify it.”

Race Forward advocates for a just, multiracial, democratic society and urges all people to join in a common goal to strengthen our democracy and build a society in which “liberty and justice for all” includes every one of us.

“It is the responsibility of each and every individual to push back against injustice and the forces that seek to divide us,” said Harris. “By bridging our differences and working together across race, gender, identities, and socio-economic status, we can strengthen our country. On this day, we encourage people to reflect on the state of our democracy and take action to strengthen it.”

Continuing their work towards these goals, Race Forward will host the second annual Cultural Week of Action on Race and Democracy from Nov. 8 to Nov. 16, 2025. This year’s theme is “We The People: A Week of Culture, Courage, and Collective Power." Taking place in communities, cities, and virtual spaces across the country, events and conversations will bring people together for collective action to protect and strengthen our democracy.
