Salary Range:  $98,301 - $109,053

Position Summary

Director of Philanthropic Partnerships, Development and Partnerships is a critical position that will help execute the vision and growth of Race Forward, while raising the organization’s profile nationally, in pursuit of high-value partnerships with foundations, philanthropic service organizations, and donors. These partnerships will yield revenue and expand awareness of Race Forward across sectors, with a focus on the philanthropic sector. The position requires a strategic thinker, synthesizer, and consummate networker who can ignite enthusiasm and inspire people to support our cause to advance racial equity. This person will understand the Race Forward mission and strategy, and will communicate effectively—internally and externally. The Director of Philanthropic Partnerships, Development and Partnerships reports directly to the Vice President of Development and Partnerships (DAP VP), and will partner closely with members of the Development, Program, and Finance teams. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of long- and short-term institutional fundraising strategies with SVP of Strategic Partnerships (SVPSP) and DAP VP for operating, capital, reserve, and special initiatives
  • Collaborate with SVPSP and DAP VP to prospect, cultivate, and steward institutional foundation relationships
  • Partner with SVPSP and DAP VP to raise the annual and multi-year budget, including reserves, in consultation with the Senior team, Board, and Program Directors
  • Support SVPSP and DAP VP through written and verbal briefings on trends in philanthropy and topical areas related to Race Forward’s mission, values, program areas and interests
  • Lead the development of comprehensive funding proposals, key external case statements, reports, concept papers, letters of intent, presentations, and other required proposal and grant reporting related materials
  • Work with Program teams to integrate objectives/outcomes into grant proposals and reports
  • Engage institutional funding partners through customized approaches including calls, letters, reporting, marketing, recognition, and more
  • Work closely with team to identify, implement and maintain inter- and intra-departmental systems that support a highly efficient and ambitious Development and Partnerships Office
  • Support creation of conditions for success within the department including structure, operations, vision, values and team culture
  • Provide oversight, review and reporting on budgets related to grants
  • Supervise Grant writer/Grants Manager

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:
  • Deep knowledge of the philanthropic sector, philanthropic practices and grant processes
  • Understanding of current political and philanthropic landscape, as it relates to racial equity and racial justice
  • Strategic thinking and visioning
  • Ability to communicate organizational stories to various funder audiences
  • Deeply skilled in interpersonal relationships as relates to supervision, relationship building, and a fast-paced workplace
  • High level writing and editing
  • Management and personnel skills related to grant writing and management
  • Structural racial justice analysis

 

Qualifications and Experience 

  • An equivalent combination of education credentials and/or experience
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in Development or Philanthropy
  • Expansive experience in grantmaking, proposal writing and reporting
  • Deep knowledge of racial justice/equity non-profit work—with active understanding of the racial justice funder landscape, all aspects of fundraising, and fundraising systems

 

Additional Information

  • This position requires long periods of time at a desk on a computer and may require time outside of normal business hours.
  • No adverse environmental conditions are expected.
  • Up to 25% (local and national)
