Michell Speight is Race Forward’s Chief of Staff. Before joining Race Forward, Michell worked in organized philanthropy serving as Vice President of Programs for the Dyson Foundation and serving as Director of Programs for Associated Black Charities of New York City. Before her work in organized philanthropy, Michell spent more than a decade working for reproductive choice, health, and advocacy organizations in communities of color including Planned Parenthood, the Bronx Perinatal Consortium, and Safe Space.

Born and raised in New York City, Michell graduated from Baruch College and Mount Sinai School of Medicine with an MBA in Health Care Administration. Currently, a doctoral candidate in Human and Organizational Learning at George Washington University, Michell’s dissertation research explores how the myth of “work ethic” oppresses low wage workers, specifically exploring the experiences of fast food workers and their involvement in Fight for $15 social movement.

Michell is a feminist and a reproductive rights activist formerly serving on boards of a Planned Parenthood affiliate and the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill. In addition, Michell lends her support to animal rights movements aimed at both eliminating the sale of animals in pet stores and shutting down puppy mills.

Michell lives in New Rochelle, NY her with three dogs and one cat, all rescued animals.
